New York Yankees had a fantastic regular season in 2022, where they finished with 99 wins. The team had a decent postseason run but crumbled in the ALCS and faced elimination from the Houston Astros. Many expected the Yankees front office to be active this off-season and make big changes to the roster. But if not for a couple of additions and the Yanks have almost the roster as of 2022.
The Yankees will depend on struggling veterans and young prospects from last season to step up. Furthermore, manager Aaron Boone recently defended a struggling Yankee veteran, stating that he might make a comeback in 2023.

The New York Yankees have several struggling veterans on their roster right now. One of them is none other than third baseman Josh Donaldson. But Yankees’ skipper Aaron Boone expects Donaldson to make an offensive comeback in the 2023 season. Talkin’ Yanks shared a video of Boone speaking about Donaldson via Twitter.
Aaron Boone explains why “you’re crazy” if you don’t think Josh Donaldson can have a bounce back season pic.twitter.com/lU8Ss8sB3n

In the video, Boone said, “I think he had an amazing winter, uh, he, physically, he looks great, his assessments, everything, he’s moving really well. But the things he did this winter to get himself ready to go. You know, I think you’re crazy to think that a bounce-back is not in there offensively. This guy still has bat speed and again is super talented, and I think physically at this point is in a much better point than he was a year ago right now.”
Fans have reacted to Boone’s statements, and they are mostly negative. Some have stated that they don’t think Donaldson will make a comeback at his age and have mocked Boone. Others have stated that it is possible. But the general opinion is that it is unlikely.

Just say… “look, we have $25M invested in this guy for 2023, we’re going to play him and he better perform.” Be honest, its waaaayyyyy easier @AaronBoone

I’m not the biggest Boone fan but if anyone could have a bounce back year it’s a guy of Donaldson’s caliber in his 2nd season with a team. With that said I don’t think he will bounce back and I want DJ/Peraza/Cabrera at 3B. BUT it’s not crazy for Donaldson to be better this year

Idc what anyone says the defense is still there he will be better this year with the bat ! I’m not a big Donaldson fan but that’s who we got and that who we going to win with let’s get it 💯💯

Aaron Hicks is another struggling veteran for the New York Yankees
Aaron Hicks is coming off a 2022 season where he struggled in left field. Many fans expected the Yankees to replace him this off-season, but that did not happen. Instead, the Yankees are planning to play Aaron Judge in the left field to cover up that weakness.
