The New York Yankees may have just lost a series to the Milwaukee Brewers, but they won in one respect. After courting third baseman Josh Donaldson for two years, the club finally let go of him in late August. After Aaron Hicks, he was just another one of their expensive mistakes. But then the Brewers swooped in to save Donaldson’s baseball career and his clean-shaven look.
The third baseman has been dealing with too many injuries to name this season but his past record shows solid numbers. Maybe Milwaukee thinks the minors can whip Donaldson into shape because they’re in need of power at third. But just to exercise options, the club called him to the majors once again. And fans can’t help but notice the timing as well as the look.

The Brewers picked up the 37-year-old with a minor league contract and shockingly, Donaldson performed well there. Going 3-for-17, two of those hits were home runs. But the problem with the third baseman is not his power to smash long balls. After all, with the Yankees in 2023, ten of Donaldson’s fifteen hits went deep. While his troubles lay elsewhere, the Brewers are open-minded.

After just seven games in Triple-A Nashville Sounds, the Brewers called up Josh Donaldson to the majors, per Talkin’ Baseball. Interestingly, the call came on Monday, Sept. 11, just one day after the team finished its series against the Yankees.
Another thing fans noticed was how, right after leaving the Yankees, Josh Donaldson adopted a habit many players do after leaving the Bronx. The previously clean-shaven third baseman now sports a beard.
Much like Aaron Hicks, a flop Yankees player now with the Orioles, Donaldson is in a new personal era. While Hicks showed early promise but then flopped, it remains to be seen what Donaldson will do with the power of his facial hair. He certainly seems confident.
Unlike the New York Yankees, Donaldson Believes in Himself
The Brewers don’t lack powerful players but it never hurts to add another. For the tea, having Donaldson is like an experiment, as manager Craig Counsell put it. “This just, in our eyes, gives us another option. Kind of like, ‘Let’s see what happens here.’” Referring to his performance, or lack of it, in New York, the slugger believed differently than the Bronx.
