Jose Bautista is finally getting the honor he deserves. One of the most magnificent players that Major League Baseball has ever seen, Bautista, came into his talent in the later years of his career. The 26th member of the 50 home run club, the former right fielder, played for a total of eight teams. But the one he’s most remembered for and the one he contributed to the most was the Toronto Blue Jays.

The iconic home run during Game 5 of the AL Division Series against the Texas Rangers in 2015 and an even more iconic bat flip. Two things Bautista will always be remembered for, in addition to a storied career that spanned a career of 15 seasons. And now, the Blue Jays are bestowing one of the greatest honors on Joey Bats.

The Level of Excellence is an award special to the Blue Jays, who present it to only the best of the best. With a career like Bautista’s, it was only a matter of time before he was recognized for it. When their official Twitter posted a photo of the announcement, fans got excited.

Although, admittedly, it did look like a whole different kind of announcement about a player, and some were concerned.

Some fans were confused and thought he was getting his jersey number retired!

When and where? The award ceremony will take place on August 12, ahead of the Blue Jays game with the Chicago Cubs. Joining 10 other members who have previously received this award, Bautista will be the first to be honored since the late Roy Halladay was inducted in 2018.

“I am deeply humbled and excited to join the Blue Jays Level of Excellence and be recognized among the distinguished names that circle Rogers Centre,” the 42-year-old said of the honor. “Canada holds a special place in my heart and will always be home for my family and me, and we can’t wait to celebrate this honor with my beloved Blue Jays fans — the best fans in baseball! See you all this summer.”
