The 6-4 game against the Minnesota Twins was led by Venezuelan second baseman Jose Altuve who helped the Astros on the mound to win another playoff game. The defending World Series champions made their 2023 playoff debut and secured their 10th consecutive victory in Game 1 of a Division Series. One owes their gratitude to the leadoff home run from Jose Altuve. He made sure the world did not forget his slugger prowess.

He has 24 career postseason home runs as of today, which is second in big league history behind Manny Ramirez’s 29. It is noteworthy to remember that he went 0 for 23 to start the playoffs last year.

The most in MLB history, Altuve hit his eighth home run on Saturday in the opening inning of a playoff game. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, that’s a margin of two homers greater than any other player in postseason history, with Albert Pujols holding the record at six.

Altuve has played a crucial role in the Astros’ dynasty over the years. He contributed significantly to the team’s World Series victories in both 2017 and 2022, boasting a career playoff batting average of .271 as of last Saturday.

Apart from that, three RBIs from Yordan Álvarez stood out in the game as well. Addressing his swing, Alvarez said, “When I go up there, try not to think about the situation, try not to think about the noise. Just say to myself, ‘I’m the only one that can get the job done at this moment’”, he said through a Spanish translator.

With the feat that the Houston Astros achieved, the fan comments poured in.
