Cody Bellinger set the dominoes for the Boras Four. However, it wasn’t a ban;, it was more about setting the timer for a bigger explosion some other time. Because Bellinger and Scott Boras agreed to a short-term deal after months of sticking on their long-term demands, questions had to follow. One of the biggest one was: Is Jordan Montgomery next?
Montgomery’s free agency has gone a little dry in the last few days. Earlier, there were quite a few suitors for the World Series winner, but gradually the field emptied after his demands didn’t come down. Now that Bellinger’s deal is showing, one wonders if Montgomery will follow suit.
According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the chances of that happening are little to none. “It doesn’t sound like Montgomery will accept a pillow contract like the one Bellinger signed.” Could there be a compromise? It could be possible, but according to the insider, it can happen only under one condition.

“If he (Montgomery)were to accept a shorter-term deal, I think the Rangers are the only team where that could happen and he’d at least consider that type of offer,” the report said However, as of now, the Rangers seem to be out due to their budgetary problems. Perhaps that’s why there’s a scramble for Monty, as the report indicated “multiple teams” were ready to give the pitcher a long-term contract.
However, the Boston Red Sox are increasingly becoming favorites for Monty. On the other hand, two teams could surprise, but look out of it right now.

Jordan Montgomery sees his market as thin but remains stronger than the rest
According to the report, the Boston Red Sox are currently ahead of the rest in Montgomery. In recent weeks, the Red Sox have climbed up in Monty’s sweepstakes, and it looks like they’re ready to take the final step. The pitching woes of the Sox aren’t unknown to anyone, especially their lack of a lefty. Signing Montgomery would solve most of their issues. Due to a lack of free-agent spending in recent seasons, the Red Sox have quite good flexibility in their payroll. Will they use it to their advantage?

On the other hand, teams like the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals are effectively out of the race. The Cards have already strengthened their pitching with three signings, while Monty’s reported to “not prefer” a reunion with the Bronx Bombers. But one can never say never in baseball. So as it stands, Beantown could find a reason to celebrate soon.
