MLB great Alex Rodriguez has fully immersed himself in his various business ventures. A sportsman of legendary status, A-Rod made a name for himself in the world of baseball. But as for any athlete, the time comes when they must give in to the demands of time and hang up their uniforms for the last time. Some sports personalities choose to stay with their sport in different roles, while some choose an entirely new career. Rodriguez did a mix of both.

While he serves as an MLB analyst for FOX Sports, the former shortstop also heads his investment firm, A-Rod Corp. Various pursuits have led the retired Yankee to gain an innate knowledge of the business world, which he sometimes imparts to other aspiring entrepreneurs. Rodriguez is so dedicated to this passion that most recently he braved heavy rains to speak at a finance-oriented event.

No, this title does not refer to the Leonardo DiCaprio movie. But it does refer to the actual personality that inspired Hollywood – Jordan Belfort. The infamous business magnate, whose career’s ups and downs as well as fraudulent activities became fodder for gossip, is something of an inspiring figure to many. The 60-year-old recently made an appearance at Ft. Lauderdale’s stop of the Aspire tour, where A-Rod joined him.

The Floridian city has been at the mercy of Mother Nature as a terrible storm assaulted the city. But Rodriguez, not to mention Belfort, remained dedicated to their craft and arrived at the event as scheduled. The former Yankee discussed what he’s learned over the years and how important it is to have mentors in this field.

In a video posted by A-Rod Corp on Instagram, Rodriguez says, “What I learned is that mentors can be very powerful, both positive and negative. I got myself in trouble by having the wrong mentors, the wrong 5 people around. And I’ve put so much time and effort – really curating – collecting the best people in the world to be around me both in intelligence and moral compass. And it’s been a great, great investment.”
