Tim Wakefield, longtime knuckleball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, was a man to remember for many reasons. Not only did he contribute greatly to the team, but also made many memories in the locker room of Boston. Two days after his passing on 1st October 2023, the whole of the Boston Red Sox is still in tears. Tributes are all one can pay right now.?

Johnny Damon and Tim Wakefield: A Friendship Beyond The Diamond

Boston Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon took to Twitter to pay tribute to his dear friend and teammate Tim Wakefield. What makes their friendship special is that they were both instrumental in the Red Sox’s historic 2004 season, culminating in a triumphant World Series victory. Post which, Damon joined the New York Yankees. While with the team, he even clinched the 2009 World Series championship while competing as an opponent against Tim Wakefield. Yet, they still shared a remarkable and endearing bond.

Damon’s tweet, accompanied by a heartfelt caption that read, “Still doesn?t feel real ??? #wakefield” reflected immense loss and disbelief. If this doesn?t echo through the baseball community, then what does??

The adorable post had Damon and Wakefield having the time of their life, performing karaoke. The two, jammed away to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond while engaging the crowd from time to time. A true moment of fun and camaraderie indeed, but there?s more.?

This was not the first time he took to Twitter to post about his late friend Wakefield. On Monday, a day after Wakefield?s passing, Johnny posted an image of them at the golf course in their golf cart.

Wakefield was a part of the Red Sox for over 17 seasons, winning the World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. He was a monumental player in Boston?s 2004 title victory – the franchise’s first in 86 years. Not to mention, his 186 victories spanned his career, the third-most all time. The loss of such a gem definitely calls for some words from the folks of the big leagues.?

The commissioner of MLB Rob Manfred made a statement to CBSNews, ?We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tim Wakefield, one of the most unique pitchers of his generation and a key part of the most successful era in the history of the Boston Red Sox?.?
