The LA Angels, despite their relative unsuccess in the MLB, are one of the most popular teams with a massive fanbase. They house superstars like Mike Trout, Jo Adell and Shohei Otani. These stars bring a sizeable fanbase with themselves, contributing to the club’s popularity. Markedly, the only World Championship the Angels have won was in their first appearance in 2002. Moreover, they are amongst the only 3 MLB franchises to win the championship in their sole attempt.

Has Joe Maddon recovered from his breakup with LA Angels?

Despite the presence of a few stars, the Angels have failed to make the post-season for a few years now. In an attempt to break the jinx, the Angels brought in 2-time World Champion Manager Joe Maddon into the setup in 2020. Joe Maddon has won three Manager of the Year awards and 2 World Championships. The LA Angels are currently placed 4th in the AL West Division at 0.426 with 52-70.

Earlier this year in June, the Angels were down in a 12-match winning streak. At that moment, the Angels were positioned at 27-29. Amidst the losing drought, the management took the hard decision and fired manager Joe Maddon. Months later, while trying to leave the past behind, Maddon said“It’s like, once that happened, I dissolved my affiliation with them. There’s no emotion anymore. There’s no anything. It’s like to me they don’t even exist, organizationally.”

Maddon added that he’s still in touch with multiple players and staff members. Moreover, since Maddon’s departure, Angel’s situation has only worsened, and their record has been 25-41. While talking about improving the team’s performance, their history, and a potential comeback, Maddon says, “They need to do the infrastructure better in order to get to where we had been in the past. That was my goal, to get the Angels back to where we had been in the past. That was it. Nothing but pure intentions. I was an Angel. They had every ounce of me. And now that’s done.”

What next for the Los Angeles Angels?

Being positioned at 4 in AL West, this season is practically over for the Angels. After Joe Maddon, they elected third coach Phil Nevin as their manager. However, the situation has only gone from bad to worse. To come back stronger, the Angels should look forward to an intense and unkind regrouping.
