Opening Day 23 marked a time when teams began anew with a clean slate. Each pitch, each swing, and each play made by the players brought with it a rippling sense of excitement to the crowd. Even though the defending champions, Houston Astros, did not have a good game against the Chicago White Sox in their season opener, the Astros’ unique celebration of winning two Fall Classics in the last five years has been the topic of discussion among MLB fans. Fans on Twitter aren’t as jubilant about the grandiose display

Houston Astros marked their beginning with a grandiose spectacle. The team’s owner, Jim Crane, and his wife Whitney Crane as they enter Minute Maid Park, in a carriage pulled by Clydesdales, had been each holding onto championship trophies.

The arena, which had been a cacophony of colors and sounds, roared as one as they entered. For home fans, the sight of the trophies was a brilliant one to behold. However, baseball fans on Twitter don’t agree. 

There is still an ongoing major discourse about the 2017 Astros sign-stealing scandal, which helped the team win the 2017 World Championship and, while many deem the display as corny, some have laid out their strong opinions as well.

Well, in the end, the entrance was one to be remembered, and whether the front office overplayed, their entrance was determined by the team’s subsequent game against the Chicago White Sox. 

Houston Astros’ Opening Day match against Chicago White Sox  

The Houston Astros’ Opening Day winning streak came to a sudden halt after a decade, when they faced the Chicago White Sox in a losing battle. The game was a duel between the two aces, Framber Valdez of the Astros and Dylan Cease of the White Sox. Neither let the other team get ahead. The scoreboard remained untouched until the Astros finally managed to garner a run in the seventh inning.

However, Chicago refused to back down and leveled the score in the eighth inning. And then, with the game hanging in the balance, scored two more runs off Houston’s closer, Ryan Pressly, in the ninth inning.
