It seems the New York Yankees are made for the Jeters. After Derek, another Jeter is about to start his Bronx journey. Reportedly, it happened after after Jeter Downs joined New York from Washington. Though the move looks surprising, it was bound to happen due to Downs’ long admiration for the Yankees, even after fate took him to Boston.

According to MLB.com, the 25-year-old has lived as a Yankee, due to Derek Jeter after being named after him by his mother, even though his father is a Red Sox fan. It was a start that no one imagined, it got a perfect ending when Downs met with the longtime hero while driving. He revealed, “We’re in traffic. My brother sees this Range Rover pulling up. He was like, ‘Oh my God, is that Jeter?’ He honks, and I wave at him.”

Later on, he called Raul Ibañez to introduce him to Derek. However, his first formal meeting came when he spoke with Jeter via FaceTime during a Miami Marlins event. Recounting it, Downs shared, “I’ve idolized him my whole life. It was finally good to meet him and talk to him a little bit. It was definitely special.” Now, he has all it covered being the latest Yankees, and can meet Jeter often. However, his priority will be to repeat what the Captain Clutch did in the Bronx.
