Notably, the Yankees v/s Red Sox rivalry is probably the oldest in the sporting world. When talking about the Red Sox, renowned actor Ben Affleck once threw shade at New York. It is no secret that the ?Gone Girl? actor is an ardent Red Sox fan.

Back in 2014, Ben Affleck appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When Fallon asked Affleck how he felt after Derek Jeter announced his retirement from the game, Affleck was glad that Jeter will not play for the Yankees anymore.

First, Affleck heaped some high praise on Jeter, but later on, he took a dig at New York City and jokingly asked not to produce someone like Jeter anymore. He also mentioned how the Red Sox fans honored Jeter in his last game; then asked the Yankees fans to do the same for the Red Sox legend, David Ortiz.

?I think he is one of the greats that we tip our hat over how he is a fabulous guy. There is probably not coming another athlete or gentleman like him, certainly not from New York City… I think it was very cool… very classy, you know, what the Red Sox fans did for him?,? Ben Affleck said in 2014.

?I am sure when Papi retires, they will do the same thing… When he [Jeter] comes here, tell Jeter, he was cool, though??

Affleck admitted the Red Sox fans wish to have Jeter by their side

Considering his talents, who would not want Derek Jeter to play for their team? And for Affleck, the Red Sox were no exception. Knowing that Jeter played for the Yankees, the “Gone Girl” actor admitted almost every Red Sox fan would want to have Jeter.
