2023 has been a disaster for the New York Yankees. Of course, general manager Brian Cashman has already admitted as much, but for the longest time, he seemed unwilling to make a change. Now, the regular season is coming to a close. The Bronx team is fighting for a Wild Card spot 11 games behind where they need to be. And the GM has decided to finally shake things up.
The Yankees seem to be focused on a youth movement, with utility player Oswaldo Cabrera and outfielder Everson Pereira getting more roster time. With veterans like Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton either injured or slumping, they don’t have much of a choice. To add to an expanding roster, the front office has decided to call in for some help from their resident alien.

Dominguez has caused waves in New York ever since his signing in 2019. He had a slow start in the minor leagues at first. But after a recent promotion to Triple-A, the 20-year-old is already a much-touted prospect. His performance in spring training in 2023 excited Bronx fans for his major league debut, and it seems like it’s finally happening.

With the current season down the drain, the Yankees are looking to the future, and Jasson Dominguez is the answer. The first-ever Yankee born in 2003, the switch hitter is the youngest player in pinstripes since Melky Cabrera in 2005. The club pursued him early on because of his unusual mix of power and speed. It was something that caused fans to label him ‘The Martian.’
Not only is Dominguez the number 2 prospect in the team, but he also has outstanding stats to match his reputation. In 109 games with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, the 20-year-old has hit .254/.367/.414 with 15 home runs, 66 RBI, and 37 stolen bases.
Additionally, while his time with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders may have been short, but in seven games, Dominguez slashed .478/.556/.652 with 10 RBI and one stolen base.

Is it any wonder fans are excited to get a taste of the future as the Yankees sit on the edge of the wrong side of history?
Amid Appalling Season, Yankee Fans Are Excited for the Future
The Yankees have not finished last in their division since 1990 but 2023 might break all the wrong records. Back then, the team was saved by the foursome of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettite. This time around, it seems to be a combination of Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez, and prospect catcher Austin Wells.
Only time will tell if they’re able to turn around the Pinstripes’ fortunes, but there’s hope among fans yet.
The Martian is coming! The Martian is coming! About time, can't wait to see what he does in the bigs. Time to call up Wells too, he can be Assistant Hitting coach as well. #Yankees

The front office and management might have kicked things into gear too late for 2023, but hopefully, things have a better outlook for 2024. The youngsters hold potential, now it’s just a waiting game to see how they handle the big leagues.
