The New York Yankees may have lost to the Phillies 7-4 in the first Grapefruit League game of the season, but there were tons of positives for the Yanks in the game. The Yankees’ number 2 prospect, particularly, had a great time on the field. Jasson Dominguez’s official title may read center fielder, but his true talent came to life when he stepped up to bat. For someone who has just five games above A-ball in his career, Dominguez sure played well in spring training.

The Bronx Bombers signed him in 2019 to a $5.1 million deal as an exciting prospect, but it’s yet to be seen when he will finally join the big league. With a great minor league season last year, the 20-year-old hit .273 with a .837 OPS. At the rate Dominguez is going, it won’t be too long before fans finally get to see him at the plate.

As Dominguez belted the ball to let it out of the ballpark, he took a moment to observe it right there in the batter’s box. It was the fifth inning against Phillies left-hander Ben Bowden, who had a mixture of frustration and resignation on his face. As the crowds roared, the commentator rightly called out The Martian’s ball going to Mars. If expectations for the 20-year-old prospect weren’t already high, they just went higher.

Here’s how Yankees fans reacted to the amazing play when Talkin’ Yanks posted the video to Twitter –

While most fans want him to play for the Yankees instead of Aaron Hicks, who had a grueling 2022 season, some are cautious of Dominguez’s lack of experience and think he could do better next year.

With abilities that are out of this world, El Marciano has the audience in the palm of his hands. But that’s not all, because even Dominguez’s fellow Yankees think highly of him. Gleyber Torres, who also homered at the game, told MLB.com, “He’s strong. He showed what he can do today. He’s got really good power. He got the perfect pitch and did really good damage on that fastball.”
