When talking about baseball and New York, it would be unfair not to mention Derek Jeter and his legacy for the New York Yankees. He was loved by many fans due to his commitment to winning. Jeter was loved for his role as the captain of the New York Yankees. This is evident by his nickname, ‘The Captain.’ But that position was recently given to Yankee star Aaron Judge

Notably, given his immense contribution to the team, the Yankees fans also approved of the deal and were happy for Judge. But many wondered how Jeter felt about it. Most recently, the retired Yankee legend opened up on Judge being named captain and expressed his honest feelings on it.

Derek Jeter was happy that Aaron Judge was named the Yankees captain

Derek Jeter was recently named to the GQ Sports Style Hall Of Fame. Following his induction into the Hall, he did an interview talking about a number of topics. One of those topics was Aaron Judge being named the New York Yankees’ captain and Jeter’s feelings about the same. The Yankee legend got completely honest and said that he was happy for Judge. He further said that many people had said great things about the Yankee’s star right fielder.

In the GQ Interview, Jeter said, “I was there you know? I went up for the press conference, I was happy for Aaron. Someone had asked me, I believe, months prior too, if I thought he should be named the next captain, it’s not a decision for me to make. I think you learn a lot about someone on what their teammates say about them, what their coaches say about them, what the manager says about them. And everyone’s always said great things about him. So I am extremely happy for him. But I had my time, you know?”

Jeter seemed genuinely happy for Judge who was named captain shortly after signing his 9-year $360 million deal this off-season. Many fans are excited to see the Yankees play this year and with Jeter’s newest career move will be even more so.

Jeter has joined Fox Sports as an MLB Analyst

In his latest career move, Derek Jeter has joined Fox Sports’ MLB division as a baseball analyst. He will join an already loaded roster of analysts and work side-by-side with former Yankee teammate Alex Rodriguez.
