Former Astros’ All-Star Alex Bregman is under the spotlight yet again! But this time, for some bad reasons though—Bregman has made a statement, citing his need to win as the main reason behind his exit from the Houston Astros. Well, before going into further discussions, let’s have a look at Bregman’s 2024 season—he averaged. 260, with 75 RBIs, .768 OPS, and 26 home runs. Alex Bregman joined the Red Sox for a three-year, $120 million deal with opt-out options, and ever since, he has shown his willingness to play at any position, with the main focus on winning the game for the team.

But that hasn’t something to do with his departure from the Astros, right? While Alex Bregman’s statement of winning the game seems legit, it drew a lot of flak given this may be the reason Bregman left the Astros. Although Bregman never publicly affirmed this narrative, on February 21, MLB insider Jeremy Branham said, “Boston hasn’t won more games than Houston in a season since 2018, and Vegas has the Astros winning more games than the Red Sox in 2025. Call me crazy, but I think it’s more about the $120 million.

Branham even highlighted Bregman’s statement—“Just wants to win”—speculating as if the Dodgers haven’t won, as a result of which, Bregman has shifted to the Red Sox to get back to winning ways. He even mentioned that the Houston Astros have a much better winning record when compared to the Boston Red Sox since 2018, so it might be all about the money Bregman’s been getting. However, it is worth noting that Bregman hasn’t found any takers, as he looked for a long-term contract, and that’s the reason he went on with the short-term contract with the Red Sox with opt-out options. Sounds fair?

Alex Bregman seems to be the missing piece in the puzzle for the Red Sox

While the Boston Red Sox are hopeful of their top prospects—Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, and Roman Anthony—who can decide the fate of the team in 2025, their new addition, Alex Bregman, can also be the game changer. Bergman’s impressive 2024 record makes him a great value for the team; he can provide support to Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran in the team. Bregman, there’s a major problem!

What’s your perspective on:

Did Bregman really leave the Astros for wins, or was it all about the $120 million?

Have an interesting take?

The Red Sox’s third baseman Rafael Devers has rejected the idea of shifting to second base while accommodating Bregman in the third base. Due to this, there’s been an ongoing tussle between the two trying to understand where they will play. However, Bregman has made his intention clear of playing anywhere the team requires, be it second or third base, ensuring that it aligns with the best interests of the team.
