Though physical, every sport is also an emotional connection between fans and the athletes. The same is true for MLB, which has millions of fans. They go to any extent to connect with their favorite stars, including accumulating collectibles. Given the MLB’s history, many players with inspiring stature had their collectibles made. The cycle has continued in the modern era, with Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani joining the list. But it seems Harper is not a big fan of loopholes in this booming industry.

Because of the high demand, there is often a scarcity of collectibles. To overcome the void, top brands use different techniques which rarely get approval from players. The same recently happened when Harper revisited one card in his name from a top brand. He was surprised to see his approval note. As his statements came during the recent cheap Shohei Ohtani card, was it the expose of a billion-dollar company?

Bryce Harper is currently playing for the Philadelphia Phillies. But the 330 million star started his MLB career with the Washington Nationals in 2012. He made his name in his debut season and became a fan favorite with his work on the diamond. It also led to the release of the multiple cards in his name. It seems Harper was unaware of them and showed his displeasure a decade after their release.

A famous content creators duo recently met the Phillies star. Being a fan of his, they showed him a baseball card from a $1.3 billion company Topps. They shared, “Bought these weeks back in 2013. We thought they were signed cards. We bought three of them, a lot of signed cards, and they’re reprinted. It does say the certified autograph issue.”

But given that the card was not original, the creators called it seems like false advertising to people. They then asked Harper if he could rip the card, which was “just a piece of paper” for them. Though Harper agreed with the claim of falsehood, he maintained his respect for the company and said won’t like to mess it up. He even acknowledged to keep it up if the card was of him with the Phillies.

But it seems Harper is not the only one on the list of fake baseball cards. A Reddit has brought attention to one such Shohei Ohtani card priced at just $200.
