Shohei Ohtani currently leads the MLB in home runs with 35 big hits in the Angels’ 97 games. In comparison, after 97 games last year, Judge was at 37 home runs. This means the Japanese sensation is on pace to match or break the Yankees’ record.

While in an interview, when the Judge got asked about Ohtani’s home-run pace, the Yankees captain gave away his candid thoughts. The Los Angeles Times beat writer, Sarah Valenzuela, shared a video of Judge speaking on the topic via Twitter.

Unbothered by the prospect of Ohtani possibly breaking his record, the Yankees’ captain said, “Records are meant to be broken. You know, it’s just a record. It would be exciting for the game if he went out there and got 63-plus. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Yankees’ results have been abysmal as of late and the postseason seems to be slipping away. Therefore, at the moment, he is only focused on recovering and returning to help his Yankees’ playoff chances.
