The AL West is done, yet the rivals continue battling. Previously vocal about his sentiments towards the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers General Manager, Chris Young boldly declared that the Dusty Baker-led side was the team everyone hated. But soon after that, he got the taste of his own medicine.

Now, as fate would have it, the Astros have triumphantly snatched the division title right from under the Rangers’ nose. They lost the AL West to the Astros in a tie-breaking situation. This gave birth to back-and-forth between the two teams’ fans and journalists about the potential cause of their loss. The GM’s reaction?

In a radio show of 105.3 The Fan, General Manager Chris Young went on record to reveal that everybody hates Houston. It is no secret that the Rangers lost to the Astros on Sunday and the cause for that was reported asThe Rangers partied last night”. With that allegation by a reporter, the fuming Young ripped apart Houston journalism for creating untrue narratives.

He said, “I’m very disappointed in the lack of professionalism of the Houston journalists for putting that out there. It’s classless and it’s not appropriate and it’s completely fabricated. It’s wrong.” But how did it all start?

It all started when Astros beat reporter Brian McTaggart of MLB.com posted a comparison of the Astros and Rangers’ clubhouse celebration scenes on Twitter. The official Houston Twitter account posted taking a slight dig at the Rangers. It was captioned, “We celebrate titles in Houston.” With that, the top brass of the Rangers could not keep calm as he went on to bash Houston.

Enraged beyond limits, Young said, “I find it ridiculous that that’s even a subject honestly. This is the most professional responsible group of players that I’ve ever been around. We had a very subdued, champagne popping, but beyond that, there was no partying, there was nothing outlandish”.

It is quite brutal how he had to give an explanation for the celebration. If this is not an ironic turning of tables, then what is?

Nevertheless, the Houston Astros seem to have their focus where it should be. While it may take a while for the feud to fade off, the Texas Rangers continue to grapple with false narratives. Despite their loss on Sunday, they stand at 90-72 with Houston, in a 2nd position in the AL West standing.

Should the Rangers emerge victorious against the Rays and the Baltimore Orioles, who are the AL East champions, and if the Astros prevail against the winner of the wild card series between the Blue Jays and the Minnesota Twins, there is a possibility that the two teams from the Lone Star State could potentially clash in the ALCS.
