Sports teams in New York are blessed and cursed at the same time. They play in one of the world’s biggest sporting markets and have incredible fans. But New Yorkers also have high expectations for their teams. This includes the New York Mets, especially after Steve Cohen took over as team owner. But things have been a little tough for the Mets so far as they have a 3-4 win-loss record. Fans are naturally upset and most recently trolled the team for a social media post involving the Empire State Building.
New York Mets fans troll their own team as the Empire State Building is lit up in orange and blue
Despite having one of the highest MLB payrolls this season and signing players like Justin Verlander, the New York Mets are struggling at the start of the season. Furthermore, they have struggled to score runs and were shut out in 2 of their last three games. But most recently, the Mets’ official Twitter account pointed out that the Empire State Building was lit in orange and blue, their team colors. This has led to intense criticism of the team and a lot of negative comments.

In the Tweet, the Mets’ official account said, “The @EmpireStateBldg in the orange and blue. 😍”. While under other circumstances fans might have appreciated the sight, the Mets are in a difficult position at the moment.
The reactions to the Tweet have been generally negative, with many pointing out the Mets’ struggles.
Some fans pointed out the Mets’ bad play and trolled the gesture.

Other fans said that it must be for the New York Knicks who are having a great NBA season. There were even some that said it is for the NHL’s New York Islanders.

Needless to say, the Mets’ loyal fans are not pleased with how their 2023 campaign has started. Their results so far have looked far from encouraging, as the season is in its early stages. But experts still predict big thongs from the New York-based team.
The Mets are still a World Series contender!
The New York Mets are still considered one of the favorites to win the World Series despite their rough start. Although it seems like a shocking prediction considering their current form, experts expect them to bounce back. It will be interesting to see how their 2023 season progresses and whether they make the World Series.
