Cleveland Guardians catcher Austin Hedges urges for the accountability of umpires? mistakes
When the game concluded, Austin Hedges was waiting for the media to address his concerns regarding the poor umpiring in the game. Notably, when the Tigers’ batter Javier Baez took a slide to reach his base in time, the Guardians’ catcher tagged him out before reaching the base.
However, after watching the replay, the umpire immediately changed the decision in the Tigers? favor. And the Guardians? catcher had a lot to say about this game-changing incident. Hedges called it a disgrace and embarrassing.
?First of all, it cost (us) the game… There?s plays at home that are beating the runners, and for 150 years you?re out. And now, we?re calling some type of rule that is really tricky to define? First of all, that cost one run automatically. And then what ended up transitioning. Honestly, it?s a disgrace, it?s embarrassing?,? said Austin Hedges.

Hedges also went on an epic rant against the officials and umpires of the game. He also raised an important point that if a player makes any mistake, they get held accountable for their part. But what about umpires?
?I don?t need to get into the rest of the debacle with the umpires because it was a really, really poor executed job by them? It?s too bad when we play a sport where we get held accountable,? Hedges added. ?Where we say something, we get held accountable, we get mocked, we get shamed. There?s no accountability on their part right now. And that?s really, really sad.?
