Right from the start of his career, A-Rod was a big name in Major League Baseball. And after signing with the New York Yankees, A-Rod became a brand in MLB. While playing for the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez had the most expensive contract in the entire MLB.

The former Yankees slugger was on course to become one of the greatest players in history. But one mistake from his past ruined everything for A-Rod. Not only did he face a year of a ban from MLB, but Alex Rodriguez also lost over $45 million during this period. However, the Yankees star still believed that the MLB ban also benefited him in some ways.

How did MLB suspension benefit the former Yankee Alex Rodriguez?

Suspension is the worst thing that could happen to any athlete. But not for Alex Rodriguez. Per Page Six, A-Rod once admitted that suspension made him a humble person. It made him look into the people’s eyes and say sorry for the mistakes he committed.

“One of the best things that happened to me was my suspension in 2014. I had to make a paradigm shift… I served the longest suspension in Major League Baseball history,” A-Rod admitted. “The year 2014 became the most pivotal year of my life. Some very, very long nights, some very lonely nights.”

The former Yankee also confirmed the suspension cost him around $45 million. But it was worth every penny of it.

“Looking in the mirror. Having to answer some tough questions. Then, the most important thing is taking full accountability for my mistakes. The suspension cost me probably north of $45 million, probably more. It was worth every penny,” Alex Rodriguez added.

“That exercise was the hardest thing I’d ever had to do in my life… to let people down, and then look them in the eye, or make that phone call, and say I’m sorry.”
