‘The Captain’ featuring Derek Jeter premieres
The Tribeca Film Festival saw Derek Jeter take the red carpet with several celebrities to mark the premiere of his documentary. Hollywood star Spike Lee and co-producer Michael Tollin are heading the project. And as the producers made their way to the premiere, so did many familiar faces. Former players and well-wishers of Jeter all alike were snapped on their way to their seats. Some recognizable attendees included CC Sabathia, Joe Torre, and Harold Reynolds.
Director Randy Wilkins has set out to make Jeter into more than just a baseball player by virtue of this documentary. Said Wilkins, “I set out with this thesis statement that Derek is not just a great baseball player, but an American icon.”
Derek Jeter’s own opinion
Propelled by powerful unseen footage and candid interviews, the documentary is a product of tremendous effort. And a superior product will definitely find its way into the hearts of baseball fans around the globe. Jeter turned a corner on media interaction only after his retirement. Especially then, fans will be eager to look back on his career. And Jeter seems to be just as excited, if not more.
