Asked if Hicks’ frustration with his role played a part in the move, Boone said: “Look, I think it was it was a difficult role for him, to get there & to accept & to thrive in. That played a factor probably.”— Greg Joyce (@GJoyce9) May 20, 2023
He also quoted Boone on whether Hicks’s frustration played a part in the move. Joyce shared, “Look, I think it was it was a difficult role for him, to get there & to accept & to thrive in. That played a factor probably.”
Considering his continuous poor outings, this decision was probably due for a long time. His performances with the bat were not up to the mark. Having played 28 games this season, Hicks has only nine runs at an average of 0.188. His OPS has dropped below 0.600, making the situation more unfavorable for his stay at the Yankees.

A tenure that was filled with highs and lows
Aaron Hicks signed for the Yankees after a brilliant 2015 season with the Minnesota Twins. He had a decent 2016 season, but after that, he played well. Hicks reached the highs of his career in the 2018 season, finishing it with 90 runs at an average of 0.248 and 27 home runs to his name.
His contribution helped him get an extension of seven years. But the situation has not been the same since then. Hicks is now looking to move on from this and play his part wherever his fate takes him. Will he play for any other team this season or later? Only time will tell.
