New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox stand as one of the most iconic sports rivalries across the globe. What started in 1919 after Boston Red Sox’s owner Harry Frazee traded Babe Ruth to the Yanks, continues even today. In an attempt to leverage the same rivalry, the Pinstripes front office made a strange judgment that even former captain Derek Jeter questioned.

In the years ensuing the Babe Ruth trade, the Yanks perpetually maintained an upper hand over the Red Sox, especially when Boston went 86 years without winning a World Series. However, years down the line, in 2004, the Red Sox humiliatingly defeated the Yankees in the most important American League Championship Series after losing the first three games.
And the Yanks took an arguable judgment call when Chad Bohling, the Yankees? mental skills coach, forwarded highlight videos of the 2004 Red Sox before the ALCS game.
What did Derek Jeter think about this decision?
In Derek Jeter’s second season of captaincy, he carried the Yanks to the postseason. Eventually, they reached the ALCS and even conquered the first half of it. However, that wasn’t enough. In the ultimate innings (12th) of the fourth game, with leveled scores, David Ortiz smashed a two-run walk-off homer. This triggered a shift in momentum. And after game four, the Red Sox won the remaining three and, by extension, the American League Pennant.
Similarly, in the 2022 ALCS, after the Yanks lost the first three games, the management began to share videos from the 2004 Championship Series (which the Yanks lost). And Derek Jeter couldn’t comprehend the rationale behind this decision.

Derek Jeter openly criticized the decision and questioned the thought process behind it. He said, ?I don’t know the context of it. I still don?t like to talk about it. It makes me sick to this day.?
After unexpectedly beating the powerful New York Yankees in the ALCS, BoSox went on to clean sweep St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.
How did fans react to Captain Clutch’s statement?
Earlier this year, Jeter stepped down from the highest seat in Miami Marlins management. And after stepping down from the Marlins’ management, Captain Clutch returned to support the Yanks with all his might. Analogous to that, as a response to his statement about the front office distributing 2004 World Series videos in the bullpen, fans displayed their desire to see Jeter in the front office, while the rest continued to criticize the poor management decision.
This is how fans reacted:
the numbness i felt after game 6 knowing it was over as we had to rely on kevin brown and javier vasquez to save us. 2004 completely killed the dynasty yankees. we only got to relive it for a little bit again in 2009 but that energy in the front office has been gone since

now imagine how pissed other 2004 yankees were when they found out the stunt the yankees did

Some may feel Jeet isn’t a good fit for GM, but I hope he feels some sort of front office role that provides decisions that will make sense towards a winning culture that we are use to seeing!

If that’s not a reason to fire everybody, I don’t know what is. What’s more amazing as they not only tolerated it but thought it was a good idea.

Man my dad passed away in 2020. And if he heard me say that his death was worse that the 2004 ALCS he'd fucking HAUNT ME.

Fire Boone and that mental health coach or whatever they call it. The one that tried to use the 2004 Yankees as inspiration.
