Known for his incredible work ethic, Captain Clutch Derek Jeter worked his way to the top by playing for two decades in the big league. Throughout this time, Jeter only saw exponential growth, not only in his game but in his positive attitude, sportsmanship, and charisma as well. No matter what happened, he didn’t let the circumstances affect his consistency on the field, which eventually helped him become an even better athlete. 

Aside from his consistency, there is one thing that the iconic Yankees captain never changed about his game. It was the one thing from his accessories that helped him become one of the best shortstops in MLB history. With his position in the ballparks, the former shortstop never thought to change the baseball gear that reminded him of the athlete he was during high school.

Contrary to other athletes who like to experiment in their game to become better, Captain Clutch was different from the start. Helping him stay on the list of top ten all-time career hits, throughout his career, Derek Jeter used the same model of the bat, P72.

While talking about the reason behind the same to the New York Post in 2013, Mr. November said, “When I signed, it was shaped like my aluminum bat that I used in high school, and my entire career I’ve never swung another bat. It just felt right.’’

Not only does childhood helps in shaping our beliefs and values, but it also guides our decisions as adults. Derek Jeter is one perfect example of this. The aluminum bat he played with in high school impacted him, and even its shape helped him become a great of the game.

Jeter: a legacy to inspire many

By working harder than many, Derek Jeter embodied the qualities many people aspire to have. It is obvious that while playing, there were many moments when the former slugger must have felt overwhelmed. But he did not let the pressure of performing get to him. Instead, he took the pressure and turned it around for his and his teammates’ benefit.

He may not have a record in hitting home runs, but he did lead his team to win five world series rings. Which is not an easy task now, and neither was it at that moment. However, he did manage to have a career that will continue to inspire the upcoming generations.
