Seiya Suzuki, the $85 million outfielder of the Cubs, is a well-known player in the baseball community. He had a decorated career in the NPB, winning numerous awards and trophies, 2x batting championships, 2x OBP leaders, and 5x Golden Gloves. A few more to come from him in the MLB. However, he got someone in his family with a better global recognition. His wife, Airi Hatakeyama. Why? She is a professional Gymnast, a model and a television presenter. Well, that’s not all because Hatakeyama is a former Olympian! 

Seiya Suzuki’s wife is an Olympian! It’s true, and she has a decorated career to boast of. Former Japanese rhythmic gymnast Airi Hatakeyama competed for her country in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. In 2012, she was ranked #7th, while in the 2016 Olympics, she was placed #8. However, apart from the 2x Olympics participation, Hatakeyama also participated in the Rhythmic World Gymnastics Championships. He has a bronze medal from the 2015 World Championship, 1 gold and 2 silver medals from the 2013 Asian Championships. So, what is she into now? 

She is currently a television reporter and personality who has promoted companies and products and made appearances on several shows. After retiring during the 2016 Olympics, Hatakeyama has pursued a television career, making appearances on comedy and variety shows as well as covering sports for NHK’s “Sunday Sports 2020” program. Well, Seiya Suzuki and his wife stand for a perfect definition of a Power Couple. While Hatakeyama is now in showbiz, Suzuki got the Tokyo Series ahead for the Cubs. A World Series title for Suzuki can make the power couple more decorated and complete.

Seiya Suzuki is set to shine in the Tokyo Series 

How is a baseball related to a samurai sword? Seiya Suzuki has got the answer. Before the Cubs’ Tokyo Series match, Suzuki is seen hitting the ball with a samurai sword. Suzuki, who plays for the Cubs with Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga, will play in the Tokyo Series on the 18th and 19th against the Dodgers. The event will also showcase Japanese talents like Suzuki, Imanaga, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki. However, the unique training style of Suzuki caught the limelight. Well, it is not the first time that anyone tried to hit a ball with a samurai sword. Remember Sadaharu Oh?

It is also a homecoming for Suzuki after years. The last time he was with the Hansin Tigers. It seemed to be a time travel for Suzuki when he heard the fans chanting for him. The same chants fans were doing during his stint with the Tigers. So yes, Seiya Suzuki is also hyped up for the Tokyo Series games. Will it make any difference for the Cubs?
