The New York Yankees and their 2023 season will be a story long repeated in the franchise’s history books. While the season’s storyline hasn’t been overtly positive for the franchise, some green shoots are starting to show. Despite being on the brink of ending the season with a losing record, the Bronx fanbase has begun to believe again. But that doesn’t wipe out the entirety of the season before.

The Yankees have featured in every post-season since 2017; however, have yet to make that count. Despite consistent qualification to the post-season, The Bronx Bombers have almost always stumbled in the post-season, even failing to make it to the World Series. Even after capturing the AL East crown in 2022, the franchise failed to make it count. However, ownership is finally responding.

The ownership is finally taking the onus for making the Yankees the feared franchise they once were again. During their disaster run, Hal Steinbrenner had announced that the off-season would bring with a third party audit for all members involved with the team, per Darius Glover. This would include the front office staff and there would be consequences.

Several weeks ago, an Associated Press report featured the following statement attributed to Steinbrenner. “We’re going to take a very deep dive into everything we’re doing. We’re looking to bring in possibly an outside company to really take a look at the analytics side of what we do. Baseball operations in general. We’re going to have some very frank conversations with each other. This year was obviously unacceptable.

Several fans have already surmised that this could indicate that the front office staff, including the general manager, Brian Cashman could be up on the chopping block for his management of the Pinstripes. His appointment since has been turbulent to say the least.

Key decisions like choosing to sign star slugger Giancarlo Stanton instead of two way phenom Shohei Ohtani in 2018, and even choosing to wait the year to sign superstar and current Captain Aaron Judge have particularly been thorns in his side.

However, the third party report could be underway to determine the exact details of where it really went wrong for the Pinstripes in the past few years.
