America’s love for the duo of Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara is synonymous with one of their favorite feel-good pairs, Laurel and Hardy. Seldom seen separately, the Ohtani-Mizuhara pair speaks of a camaraderie that sets the benchmark for professionals related to sports to look up to while dealing with their players. For a bond that reaches further beyond the realms of America, it doesn’t fail to touch the personal lives of both the player and his interpreter, as well!
Ippei-San is well known for taking care of Shotime in time of need. What many fans of Shotime don’t know is that Mizuhara’s gestures are back in kind in Ohtani’s own little—or not-so-little—ways! The unicorn reportedly gave a gift to Mizuhara on the occasion of the latter’s wedding—one that once again portrayed the thoughtfulness Ohtani shows in his on-field deals.

According to a Reddit user who translated a Japanese report covering one of the Ohtani-Mizuhara interactions in their home country, Shohei Ohtani wanted to give his interpreter a gift to celebrate his wedding, which took place in 2018. The Unicorn (who was playing for the Angels at the time), along with Ippei-san and his wife, got together a few months later, during the offseason, for dinner. What Shotime brought along with him proved to be a gesture to touch the “moon,” one could say.

Shohei Ohtani gifted Ippei-san and his wife with a travel certificate that covered their entire honeymoon! “We’re really touched by his gesture,” Mizuhara found himself musing to the Japanese Daily Sponichi.

He also revealed that, though the Mizuhara couple will probably not be able to make good use of it because of the busyness of the offseasons, it held great value for them. Shotime, as magnanimous as ever, didn’t stop at giving just the certificate, though.

The travel certificate followed another gift that Shohei Ohtani gave the newlyweds. While the family and the player were traveling to Los Angeles from Tokyo in 2018, the Unicorn threw them a surprise celebration for their wedding. It looks like Ohtani covered all the bases possible for missing out on attending the ceremony when it happened. Just like he does on the diamond!
