In modern Yankees history, Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman are partners. The two often attend media press conferences and work in sync. But the situation was different years back when the current Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone played for the team. The two were on opposite sides, and Boone seemed to have lost favor with the GM Cashman.
The Book, The Yankee Years by Joe Torre and Tom Verducci gives an insight into the incident when Cashman tried to trade Boone. Though it did not happen, it preceded another interesting case that affected the Yankee’s history.

The New York Yankees are one of the foremost MLB teams, which possibly no player would say no to play for. Multiple modern and past stars have adorned the Pinstripes and found success. The same is true for Aaron Boone, who played for the Yankees.
But his journey as a Yankees player has not been much inspiring. It also put him beyond the confidence circle of GM Cashman.
On page 256, it reads, “The Yankees had tried to replace Boone with Los Angeles third baseman Adrian Beltre, but they could not work out a trade with the Dodgers. The Yankees signed journeyman Mike Lamb to play the position.” It possibly happened because Boone failed to repeat his Cincinnati Reds numbers.
He played 54 games for the Yankees in 2003. He scored 31 runs, and six HRs with 31 RBIs averaging 0.254. Though the numbers were decent, the Yankees had something else in mind.
Though the deal did not materialize, Boone did not play for the Yankees after 2003. It all happened because of an unfortunate injury that became the reason for the signing of Alex Rodriguez.

A Knee Injury and Alex Rodriguez?s Arrival in New York
Though Boone overcame the trade challenge, an injury shortened his Yankees career. It happened before the 2004 season when he played pickup basketball.
During the game, a tackle from his friend hurt Boone a lot, causing a ligament tear, which put him out of the season. It made the Yankees sign for the alternatives and Alex Rodriguez.
