“I mean, he’s barely been injured his whole career”, and now there’s an MRI? All the New York Yankees fans are freaking out about their ace Gerrit Cole’s health issue. Perhaps the best starting pitcher for the Yankees, ‘Cole Train’, headed for tests on his right elbow with “a level of discomfort”. Wonder what’s wrong?
One wonders how someone like the Cy Young Award winner with a history of no Tommy John surgery has been faced with a problem. Particularly at such a crucial time. Well, manager Aaron Boone shared “When he’s at 45 [pitches] and building to 55, he usually doesn’t have the recovery issues he’s having.”

Though there have been updates stating that the matter is not of “extreme concern“, one must wait till Tuesday to know more. *Sigh* When will this injury crisis end?

Starter Nester Cortes too was vocal about this scenario stating that it was “it’s alarming for everybody”. Apart from this being nightmarish news for the Yankees faithful, it is something that is shocking given Cole’s clean background with no injuries. He has always been a reliable arm, always.
Not only has he been capable of handling a heavy workload, but also he manages it well. His second Grapefruit League start is supposed to happen on Tuesday. The 33-year-old, who inked a $324 million contract before the 2020 campaign, has been a Yankees workhorse ever since. Nobody has pitched more innings than Cole (664), in the four seasons that have passed since.

Cole Train is a valuable asset; there is no denying that. But how the Yankees navigate this crisis is going to be testing for the club. Maybe there’s nothing to worry about. The club does have Carlos Rodon, Marcus Stroman, and Nester Cortes, but they come bearing issues of their own. Rodon has grappled with a disappointing 1st year marred by injuries and bouts of ineffectiveness. Cortes on the other hand has issues in his left shoulder and Stroman has his hip inflammation and rib cage cartilage fracture. Having said that, a lot of responsibility lies on the shoulder of Cole. One can only hope he recovers soon. Fingers crossed until the prognosis is revealed.
