Another day, another sports superstition – but this one shockingly may hold. Shohei Ohtani has been rampaging with his two-way skills this season, elevating the Los Angeles Angels name. But the fate that must befall every talented athlete has also struck the Japanese sensation – a terrible slump. However, is it a natural state of being or some supernatural curse at work?
Superstitions and myths have long plagued the athletic world as the blame is tried to be placed on some otherworldly occurrence. After all, what could be the reason a well-performing player suddenly falls into decline? Indeed, not through any fault of their own, other than maybe constant wear and tear of the body. So must be the case for Shohei Ohtani, who seems to be going through bad luck after rapper Drake showed his support for him.

Winner of five Grammy awards and multiple nominations, Drake has struck again. The One Dance singer has a terrible reputation in sports, although his interests seem innocent enough. But when seemingly one-off incidents turn into a series of unfortunate events, who wouldn’t be suspicious?
The Canadian rapper’s infamous reputation stems from his support for various sports teams and entities that later ended up underperforming. Detailed lists of individuals going into decline exist on the internet, and fans fear the 29-Year-Old is the latest victim.
On August 5th, in public, Drake was photographed wearing the Angels’ slugger’s All-Star game jersey. And since then, the season has gone downward for the Halos and the Japanese superstar. Although Sho-time still leads the league in home runs and is a terrifying presence on the plate, it was recently announced that the two-way phenom will no longer pitch this season due to a torn UCL.
Given the state of the Angels, it’s a devastating loss. A few weeks ago, some fans joked that Ohtani could miss out on the rest of the season, but he would still be the top AL MVP contender. The prediction is, unfortunately, coming true, and as Aaron Judge makes his comeback, could he affect Ohtani’s MVP chances?
