With the trade deadline passing for Major League Baseball, most team rosters will have firmed up for the remainder of the 2023 season. But the New York Yankees have just been dealt a blow that may see the roster in weaker shape than before. With GM Brian Cashman addressing the media, the Yankees’ defense saw an omission that only a few Yankees fans will have wanted to imagine.

The Yankees may have a misfiring offense, but their pitching has been a rare bright spot. The Gerrit Cole lead rotation has this season often had to pick up the slack for the lack of runs from their hitter. But with the omission of another star pitcher, that rotation seems to be looking thin.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, GM Brian Cashman reported that star pitcher Domingo German will join the restricted list for the remainder of the 2023 season. Cashman indicated that this was down to an alcohol abuse-related incident without going into any further details.

The New York Yankees, while undoubtedly weakened by the loss, have put their responsibility first. With Bryan Hoch reporting, GM Brian Cashman reportedly said, “I’m worried right now for the person and the immediate family.

The team too came out in support of the pitcher who turns 31, this Friday. “It is critical that Domingo completely focuses on addressing his health and well-being,” the team said. “We will respect his privacy as he begins this process.

The player reportedly voluntarily entered in-patient treatment and will be on the restricted list for the Pinstripes, having pitched for the last time this season.

Domingo German – A massive loss for the Yankees defense

Domingo German has had several bright spots this year for the Yankees. The pitcher was instrumental in the Bronx Bombers’ win over the Oakland Athletics on June 28 this year. Pitching in Major League Baseball’s 24th perfect game for the Yankees, the Pitcher has delivered several exceptional moments for the AL East team.

The pitcher is a part of an elite list for the Pinstripes. German put his name on an elite list with Don Larsen, David Wells, and David Cone as one of the few Yankees to pitch perfect games.

While his overall stats leave a bit to be desired, the talent is unquestionably on show. Despite a 4.56 ERA in 2023, the pitcher was certainly a bright spot in what is otherwise turning out to be a troubling season for the Yankees.
