Joe Maddon is now a history for the LA Angels. Notably, the Angels sacked the veteran manager after the 12th consecutive defeat in the ongoing regular season. Given the inconsistency from the Angels, it was more or less bound to happen any time soon.

This is the second firing of an MLB manager within a week. Earlier this month, the Philadelphia Phillies also fired their manager Joe Girardi from his position for the very same reason. Now, the bigger question is, will Maddon continue his managerial career? Or will he say goodbye to his managerial career in MLB?

Ever since his hiring as the Angels manager, Maddon rarely left any impact on the Angels. He managed the Angels for over two and a half-season, and yet he failed to lead them to any postseason appearance. Given he has made two World Series appearances, Maddon’s stint at the Angels did not work for the side.

What’s next for Joe Maddon?

LA Angels had a blazing start to the 2022 regular season. There is a saying that things change very fast in baseball. At once, the Angels were sitting comfortably at the top of the AL West, but after their 12th consecutive loss, the Angels’ current record is 27-29. And that is the main reason the Angels fired Maddon.

Talking about his immediate sacking, Maddon wanted to continue at the Angels and do better things together. Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Maddon will not give up as he wants to give another shot at his managerial career.

“You always rely on people in charge to read the tea leaves properly. This time, they did not. You didn’t even have to ask me. You can ask any of the players or coaches. They’re the ones who really know… Of course. Of course, I want to manage. I’m really good at it,” Joe Maddon said to The Athletic.

Maddon as a manager in MLB

Before becoming the Angels’ manager, Joe Maddon also coached the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs. And he was quite successful for both teams. Maddon led the Cubs to win the 2016 World Series title. He also led the Rays to the World Series in 2008. But the Phillies clinched the title.

Had he been given more time at the Angels, Maddon would have improved the team. Maddon had a 130-148 record for the Angels during his tenure as their manager.

What do you think? Did he deserve a second chance for the Angels?
