The Texas Rangers may be leading the AL West but their ace is suffering. The injury-prone Jacob deGrom, who signed with the Rangers in December, has recently been on paternity leave for the birth of his third child. A former New York Mets player, the pitcher has had many ups and down these past few years. Suffering from one injury after another has left him rather unreliable at times and recent news is only proving it more.
While deGrom was scheduled to come back on Monday but instead, the next available date seems to be June 28.

The 34-year-old last pitched against the New York Mets on April 28 but had to exit early due to discomfort. It was the second time injury concerns were raised in three starts and deGrom hasn’t pitched since. Now, it seems like he’s headed for an even longer break.

The $185 million, five-year contract that deGrom signed with the Rangers has seen a slow start and may take longer to see fruition. The team’s general manager Chris Young admitted that deGrom “hasn’t improved maybe as quickly as we had hoped”. The pitcher has had five bullpen sessions to practice but progress is slow.

Because of this new development, the earliest that deGrom can be activated is June 28. “We don’t see anything before that as a possibility,” Young added. “We want to make sure that we proceed cautiously.” Needless to say, fans aren’t happy with the news. In fact, they’re downright angry.
Texas Rangers fans want nothing to do with deGrom anymore
Jacob deGrom won the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2014 and has earned 4x All-Star selections. Additionally, he is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and has led the NL in strikeouts multiple times. Despite these achievements, his recent performance has left something to be desired and fans are furious with the continued display.

While he has received some support here and there, the general sentiment is against deGrom currently.
This is why I laughed at anyone putting him on top of their preseason lists. This, right here

This is incredibly sad. Had the honor of watching this guy pitch for years. The greatest I've ever seen in his Cy Young years. Wouldn't be surprised if he retired early like David Wright did.
