Derek Jeter is returning to Yankee Stadium. This time, it’s not going to be for a concert of his Hall of Fame Induction, but another special honor. He’s a Bronx faithful who won everything in fives – Gold Glove awards, Silver Slugger titles, and World Series. No one has been able to match Jeter’s legacy, although Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe may give it a try. Nevertheless, there was and always will be only one Captain Clutch.

September brings with it a close to the regular baseball season. Teams that won’t confidently make it to the postseason fight for the wild card spot, including the current New York Yankees. But on September 9, they will put things on hold for a while to honor the legacy of the Pinstripers that came before. That’s right, it’s time for Old Timers’ Day.

2023 is a special year for the Yankees who won the 1998 World Series. Not only is it the 25th anniversary of their victory, it is also the 75th anniversary of the tradition. This year’s Old Timers’ Day will feature Derek Jeter for the first time, who will be joined by the iconic ‘Core Four’ Yankees. Jorge Posada, Andy Pettite, and Mariano Rivera will be in attendance with Joe Torre, Ron Guidry, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, and Willie Randolph.

But unfortunately, there will be no game this season, something the former Captain is relieved about. In an appearance on The Messenger with his wife, Hannah, Jeter touches on his invitation to this sacred Yankees day. “There’s no game, so I’m not embarrassing myself on the field,” he tells Mike Vulpo as Hannah laughs.

Seems like, despite all the prestige his name holds and how revered he is in New York, the former Captain still doesn’t quite trust his baseball abilities! But he’s still excited to meet up with his old teammates. “I’ve been back a few times since I’ve retired. Any time you have a reunion, and get a chance to meet guys you’ve played with brings back a lot of old memories. So I’m really looking forward to getting up there.”

Unfortunately, Bronx fans won’t get to see their favorite shortstop in action this year. It breaks a decades-long tradition that Old Timers’ Day has always seen but Derek Jeter won’t be at the plate this time. Nevertheless, everyone is excited for the legends to be back at the iconic ballpark.

New York Yankees Cannot Wait to See Captain Clutch Back at Yankee Stadium

Manager Aaron Boone, who played in pinstripes for a crucial year in 2003 with Jeter, is also invited to the event. “That’s a big deal. It’s Derek Jeter,” he said. “I know how meaningful it is to all of the alumni and all of the former Yankees players that come and have this day circled on their calendars.”

The current captain also knows how much the clubhouse has missed Jeter’s presence since his retirement in 2014.

“It’ll be great to have him out there,” Judge said. “Former captain, all the championships, he’s Derek Jeter. Especially for the fans, and with the young kids here, it’s gonna be pretty cool to get to see that.”WATCH THIS STORY – Unveiling the Brilliance: How a Scout Discovered Derek Jeter’s Greatness Long Before His Yankees Captaincy
