Baseball has been one of America’s favorite pastimes for decades, with millions of fans loving the game. But it has also played an important role in American politics. Several American Presidents have shown up at games and even thrown out the first pitch. But most recently, Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom displayed his affinity for baseball.

Prime Minister Sunak is in the United States for his first official visit since taking office. The discussions are reportedly surrounding economic trade and AI. But during his two-day trip to Washington DC, he also enjoyed some baseball.

Rishi Sunak arrived in America for his first official visit as PM to discuss relations with the USA. But amidst the diplomatic talks, Sunak also took the chance to enjoy some baseball while in Washington DC. The British Prime Minister enjoyed a game between the Washington Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks. He shared pictures from the game on Twitter and even shockingly hinted that he might like it more than cricket someday. 

In a Tweet, he said, “From the Hill to the mound… Day 1 in Washington DC ended at the baseball where we celebrated UK-US Friendship Day and honoured those who gave their lives for our freedom”. While replying to his own Tweet, he made the shocking revelation, saying, “I’ll always love cricket… But I could get into this 🧢⚾️”.

The theme of the game was UK-US Friendship Day and had a special military flyover. Furthermore, the Royal Marine Corps of Drums made a special performance. Mr. Sunak seemed to enjoy the experience while supporting the Nationals by wearing their white jacket. But he turned down a top honor at the game. 

Prime Minister Sunak did not throw out the ceremonial first pitch

Although he attended the game and seemingly enjoyed the experience, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak did not throw the ceremonial first pitch. According to reports, Downing Street was not comfortable with the PM throwing the pitch in front of thousands of people. Instead, British Army veteran Stuart Taylor took up the honor. But Mr. Sunak had a complete experience at the game. He has shown a love for sports not limited to cricket and recently lauded a top soccer team owner after promotion to League Two
