Let’s welcome the newest member of Cooperstown. The first Japanese player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Ichiro Suzuki. He has been one of the most influential players to ever play from Japan. He had an illustrious career and rightfully deserves his place in the Hall of Fame. While most of the fans think he was the unanimous decision to go into the Hall of Fame, there was one writer who thought he didn’t deserve it. And Ichiro Suzuki had a few words for him.
After the voting results were out for this year’s Hall of Fame induction, there was a very surprising thing the fans noticed. The percentage of votes Ichiro Suzuki received looked a little off. This is because it was 99.7%. This means that there was one writer who didn’t vote for Ichiro to be in the Hall of Fame. This angered all the fans and Ichiro Suzuki himself addressed this. This is what Ichiro Suzuki’s interpreter said as he translated the Hall of Famer’s words, ” I was able to receive many votes from the writers and was grateful for them. But there is one writer that I wasn’t able to get a vote from. I would like to invite him over to my house and we’ll have a drink together and we’ll have a good chat. Very grateful to be here and Thank you.”

Ichiro Suzuki did not take that one vote to heart and was very jovial about it. He was sarcastic but playful with his comments about the one writer who didn’t vote for him. Although the fans around him are very angry about this, he is not bothered much. He is happy that he has been inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. Ichiro Suzuki might not have been unanimously elected to the Hall of Fame. However, that does not affect his influence on and outside the field: his influence will be remembered as much more than just on-field memories.
