Did Ice Cube's performance at Dodger Stadium ignite the ultimate LA pride against the Yankees?

When it comes to diss tracks, few stars can rival Ice Cube, and on Saturday night, he brought his A-game to the LA Dodger Stadium. Decked in complete Dodgers gear from hat to jersey, jacket, and more, he turned up before the crowd ahead of the much-anticipated Game 2 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. And it didn’t take long for Ice Cube to fire up the packed house of 53,000 fans.

Ice Cube lit up the night with two hit songs, dropping classics like “Bow Down” and “It Was a Good Day.” And from his first word, it was clear—the message was that this is his arena, and any other team stepping into the Dodger stadium would not go without a fight. The energy was just electric between the two rival teams, and as Cube took the mic, it heightened the battle cry even more.

Cube was hyping out the hometown fans with his song choices. “Bow down, when we come to your town, Bow down, when I’m westward bound, Bow down, ’cause I’m not a hater like you, Bow down to a team that’s greater than you,” Ice Cube sang. And then he pointed directly to the New York Yankee’s dugout, almost like mocking them, as he said that. This was also when starter Carlos Rondon was walking out into the diamond. But Ice Cube was still not done dissing them yet!

Ice Cube, riffing on his 1993 classic, threw in a line about “Messed around and then I hit a double; freakin’ Yankees every way, like Kobe,” paying his homage to L.A.’s legendary Kobe Bryant. And with that, the LA fans went wild, as if Kobe were present in the crowd itself, hyping everyone up. That energy was seriously infectious, so much so that even LA Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts and part-owner Magic Johnson were also seen grooving along to Cube’s music.

Ice Cube was the perfect choice for the LA team. His performance was a reminder that the Dodgers fan is more than just a cheerleader. They are instead the city’s heartbeat, and the rapper brought in that element of L.A. pride perfectly. Plus, he even gave a heartfelt tribute.

Cube sang his classic “Westside Connection.” Then, even paused between his sets and asked the crowds, “How do you feel up there today? Are we going to win Game 2 or what?” And then Ice Cube added, “We doing this for Fernando, baby… yeah!” throwing in that personal connection. And fans couldn’t help but move along in tribute to the beloved “El Toro.

Plus, Cube even pointed directly at the number 34 painted on the mound in honor of Valenzuela. It was a moment of respect for the legend who inspired people all over LA and Mexico for generations. Later in the game, a tribute video to Valenzuela was lit up across the screens for all to see. It had highlights of Valenzuela’s legendary career displayed. The entire crowd broke out in an unforgettable ovation and clapped for their star. Some couldn’t help and even broke out in tears.

Baseball truly isn’t just a game; it is an emotion etched into the hearts of every fan. While the Los Angeles Dodgers fans came out of here happy, the same cannot be said for the New York Yankees fans. The Yanks lost to the men in blue for 2-0 in game 2 of the World Series.
