“I Would Steal Moments”- Mariah Carey Once Revealed the Only Fear During Her Intimate Affair With Derek Jeter

The Playboy was probably the right name to give to the Yankees’ former shortstop, Derek Jeter if all the rumors about his dating life were true. However, there was one woman that Jeter not only wanted to date but also get married to as well in his teenage days. That woman is none other than the iconic singer Mariah Carey.

But for Jeter, dating Carey did not come without its challenges. This is because, at the time Jeter and Carey dated, the singer was still married to the producer Tommy Mottola. In her autobiography, “The meaning of Mariah Carey,” Carey talked about the only time being terrified of Mottola.

What did Mariah Carey say about being terrified of Mottola?

The former couple started talking to each other secretively via texting. They used to plan the times whenever they could find the time to talk. It was also because the singer was terrified to talk to Jeter because Mottola was anywhere near her. That’s why she used to resort to tactics to briefly talk to Jeter on phone calls.

Per her autobiography, Carey would try to find ways to talk to the Yankees star, “I would steal moments. Every call was brief. I was riddled with fear, but it was thrilling.” 

Mariah also added that she used to stage errands with her assistant so she could leave and go to her assistant’s house and talk to Jeter. At one point, she was terrified enough of Mottola that she used to whisper while at her assistant’s house.

Jeter’s dream came true!

While being a teenager, Jeter used to hang posters of Carey in his bedroom. He even believed that there would be a day when he would marry her. Although Jete did not get to marry his dream girl, he dated his favorite singer for a while.

Even though the two did not date long enough, dating Jeter gave courage to Carey to come out of a marriage with her then-husband. It has been over two decades since Jeter and Carey were together, but their romance is still a topic of discussion among their fans.
