Amidst trade rumors revolving around Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Monday’s night against the Boston Red Sox was in the slot for him. In a tight match, Guerrero smashed a humongous home run in the seventh inning, leaving the ball outside Fenway Park. However, despite his heroics, the Blue Jays surrendered themselves in the eighth inning. They went to give up a 4-run lead in the 8th and a walk-off in the 9th and the Jays lost to the Red Sox by 7-6.

Following the unfortunate loss of the Blue Jays on Monday, Vladimir Guerrero addressed his trade rumors about joining the Yankees. Speaking in his post-match interview, he said, “I’m a worker, I’m a professional, and I go out on the field to play. I talked to my dad and family, and what I can say is that the organization understands me.”

Additionally, he opened up on joining other teams by saying, “I’d be happy to help any team, but right now, I’m focused on helping my team and trying to get out of this bad streak.” Clearly, as per his words, he would be happy to join any other team.

Adding more to the chaos, MLB insider Jon Heyman from the New York Post shared Guerrero’s trading possibility, saying, “The big-market Jays won’t give up easily. But, at some point, they may need to consider whether this group is going to break through”. Juan Soto will be a free agent after the 2024 season, and if the Yankees won’t get him back, Heyman thinks Guerrero can replace him!

Recently, the possibility of Guerrero joining the Yankees has been the talk of the town. The Yankees are trying different prospects: Ben Rice, veteran DJ LeMaheu, and newcomer J.D. Davis. If this formula doesn’t work for the Yankees, they will have to go out for a hunt, and what’s a better prospect than Vladimir Guerrero Jr?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the Yankees could reinforce an already star-studded line-up

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., at 25, is at the peak of his career. Highlighted by plenty of All-Star selections, a Gold Glove Award winner, and a leader in scoring home runs back in 2021, he has shown his prowess as a designated hitter. Additionally, his performance for 2024 is only improving each day. He’s scoring at a batting average of .286, including 36 RBIs and 10 home runs in just 78 games.

As of now, Guerrero Jr has only one year left before he can reach a free agency. If the Yankees get the 3-time All-Star winner, they could improve their first base position. Currently, Ben Rice is their first position player, and their primary player, Rizzo, is on the injured list. Even for Anthony Rizzo, his season has been full of struggles. He has batted at just .223, and with an OPS of .630 in 70 games- judging by that aspect Guerrero is, anytime, a ‘stable’ choice. He will provide the Yankees with solid first-base protection, and his potential with the bat is unquestionable.

Eventually, the MLB Trade Deadline will be 30th July, and the Yankees’ next move is a big one. For now, Guerrero has expressed his support to the Blue Jays. But a potential trade with the Yankees could change the dynamics of the AL East. Should the Yankees get Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or look for other prospects?
