Given the success Jeter had, his presence was intimidating for many. But Jeter himself had a tough start to his MLB career, aged 18. It all started during his first spring training with the Yankees. Stressing on the same, Jeter in the book Jeter Unfiltered dictated the entire episode about his first day at the office.

Though Derek retired as a big name in the MLB world, had a very humble start to this journey. The Yankees drafted Jeter in 1992. He had his first taste of humbleness in the first spring training session. At age 18, it was a big moment for Jeter, who could see all the superstars alongside him.

In his book, Jeter Unfiltered, on page 19 the shortstop wrote, “I remember showing up for my first spring training at eighteen years old. It used to be held down in Fort Lauderdale, so Doug, who has been my friend since fourth grade, made the long drive with me from Kalamazoo in the first car that I’d bought, a red Mitsubishi 3000. I was nervous, I was intimidated, I was scared.”

Given that it was his first day at the spring training, it was a big day for Jeter. The occasion became even bigger when Jeter had to play alongside his favorite stars. He described this moment as intimidating when Don Mattingly and Wade Boggs joined him at the bases. Being a lifelong Yankees fan, it was a dream come true, especially after he traveled across in the car, which even the sales agent doubted if Jeter could afford or not!
