Roses are red, violets are blue and Aaron Judge is a Yankee. After signing a whopping 9-year $360 million contract, Judge will probably end his MLB career in the Bronx. Even though Judge’s extension was nothing but a joy for the Yankees fans, there was still one thing that almost every New Yorker wished for Judge.

Ever since Derek Jeter bid farewell to the game, the Yankees organization did not trust anyone with the responsibility of being the captain of the team for eight long years. And now when the Yankees organization handed the honor to their talisman, it was cherry on the top for Judge after landing a mega contract. Recently, the newly appointed captain revealed how he was surprised by a 3 am call from the Yankees’ owner, who briefed him about the new responsibility.
How did Aaron Judge react to Hal Steinbrenner informing him about the captaincy label?
In the mega ceremony last evening, Judge revealed his reaction to being informed about his appointment as the Yankees captain. And it was none other than the Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner, who broke this news to his star outfielder. The Yankees owner managed to sway Judge from any $350 million, nine-year San Francisco offers.
Judge on being named Captain: "It was 3 AM in California, I was on the phone with Hal, and he explained how important that honor is to the organization. He presented it to me, and I was at a loss for words. I was pretty taken aback because that’s such an incredible honor."

After Derek Jeter’s retirement in 2014, Aaron Judge officially became the New York Yankees leader. In his induction ceremony last evening, he spoke about how Steinbrenner broke the news to him after pitching the legacy of New York. Judge said, “It was 3 AM in California. I was on the phone with Hal, and he explained how important that honor is to the organization. He presented it to me, and I was at a loss for words. I was pretty taken aback because that’s such an incredible honor.”
This incident demonstrated it was not financial gain that drew Judge back to the Yankees, but rather the alluring and coveted ‘Yankee emotion’ that everyone wants to be a part of. And as the face of this emotion, Aaron Judge personifies the spirit of the team.
