New York’s Bronx borough has seen some amazing legends grace the baseball scene over the years. Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter, to name a few, have donned pinstripes. Good players always come and go, changing the course of the sport. It’s always exciting to watch their career trajectory take a turn straight toward Cooperstown. Now the question is, who’s next up in line to be a New York Yankees legend?
The obvious answer would be the reigning AL MVP and 16th captain of the team, Aaron Judge. Ever since his MLB debut in 2016, the outfielder has shown an impressive knack for the game, in addition to his already sizeable skills. Of course, his career hasn’t been without ups and downs. But isn’t that exactly what makes someone a legend?
But if one were to ask All-Rise about his icon status, he would tell them they’re wrong.

Aaron Judge doesn’t think he’s a New York Yankees icon…yet
Currently, Judge is struggling with hip strain after an awkward slide into a second base at a game last week. He was placed on the 10-day injured list and the Yankees continue to struggle in his absence. As everyone eagerly awaits his return, Judge is making full use of the time to recover. While he can’t play yet, he can give interviews just fine. And recently, when WABC Radio’s Mike Daddino asked the outfielder about what he thinks of his status, he had an interesting answer.
Aaron Judge refuses to accept the fact he’s an icon.
Such a humble dude. I mean, you see the way he looks at me. We got something.

“I try not to think about it. I still wouldn’t even say I’m an icon. We’ve got a lot of the great Yankee legends and the great New York stars that we have here in the city,” Judge said. “I just try to enjoy every single moment, soak it up. I don’t know anything about an icon yet but we’re working towards it.” Well, seeing at the rate he’s going, the captain is certainly on his way to a Hall of Fame-worthy career, just like the previous captain!

As of now, both the Yankees and Judge have said that he’ll be back soon, whenever that may be. The 10-day IL is just a suggestion because he could be back sooner. Some fans are worried he could actually take longer, but given the nature of the injury, All-Rise is not expected to miss any more games than necessary. Let’s hope he can make a quick comeback to his beloved Yankees!
