To most of the baseball world, Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players who ever played the game of baseball. A five-time World Series champion, captain of the New York Yankees, and exceptional at shortstop – Jeter did it all. But as is the case with famous personalities, not everyone is a fan. And the MLB Hall of Famer has one particular name that didn’t like him or his style of play – comedian Bill Burr.
Audiences generally love listening to Burr’s sometimes controversial hot takes on a variety of topics. In 2022, the comedian said something about Jeter that simultaneously enraged and entertained fans. Burr is a Massachusetts native, so one can guess which baseball team has his allegiance. That’s right, the Boston Red Sox, sworn enemy of the Bronx. And while it’s common to see a Yankees vs Red Sox fight break out now and then, Burr called out the Captain on national television.

In 2022,?The Mandalorian actor appeared as a guest commentator at Fenway Park, the first comedian to do so. Most of his segment went well and then came the end. The conversation turned towards Jeter and Bill Burr let everyone know what he thought of him. Particularly, the way Jeter avoided the ball when it came dead center on the pitch. And he acted it all out in detail!
“Derek Jeter would have made that a ball. If it was a strike, remember how he used to do that?… I swear to god, like six times out of ten he?d get a ball. Granted, he was one of the greatest who ever did it…Genius, I mean that guy was incredible,” Burr said.
He continued, “I don?t hate individuals, if they?re great I can?t work up that level of hate. There?s a whole bunch of Yankees that I love … I just hate him.? Since then, Burr has only made one more appearance at a game. Though entertaining, does that tell fans something? Because he had more to say on the team the Red Sox were up against!

Even Toronto wasn’t safe from Burr’s line of fire
After mimicking Jeter and his moves, Burr looked out at the game as if suddenly remembering where he was. As he sat down, the Blue Jays became his next target. Or perhaps more accurately, the F Is for Family actor ridiculed Canada as a whole, calling its citizens low-key hostile.

“I gotta tell you, Toronto talking trash really kind of lit a fire. It?s really bugging me… Canada in general is low-key hostile. They try to act like they?re the best white people. It?s like ?dude, there were people here before you, so get off your high horse,?? Burr said.
Ouch. This is what one calls a staunch supporter, and Burr made clear which team he was on.
