Growing up, Alex watched and played other sports and admired his favorite players in awe.
Alex Rodriguez felt the rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird was pretty cool
Alex got introduced to baseball by his father when he was just a kid. His father played baseball for a team in the Dominican Republic. And so, like father like son, A-Rod started playing baseball very early on. Back then, his favorite team was the New York Mets, and his favorite players included Keith Hernandez, Dale Murphy, and Cal Ripken Jr.
However, this did not stop A-Rod from playing or thinking about other sports.
He said, “I played football, quarterback. My favorite player was Dan Marino, and I played a little basketball. I loved Magic Johnson growing up. The rivalry of Magic and Bird.. was pretty cool.”
The rivalry between Magic and Bird was nothing but a rivalry between the two teams and the players who wanted to succeed.
This ‘rivalry’ lasts till today between The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. But, it has now dampened down, ever since Magic and Bird retired from the game.
A-Rod owns a basketball team
In the year 2020, Alex Rodriguez with his ex-fiance Jennifer Lopez tried to buy the New York Mets, which was also A-Rod’s favorite team as a child. However, the duo could not compete with Steve Cohen’s bid and thus lost the deal.?

But, this did not stop the ex-Yankees player from moving forward. Last year, A-Rod in partnership with e-commerce billionaire, Marc Lore bought stakes in NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves. The complete ownership is said to be given by 2023, and it is still unclear as to which one of the two will be the designated control owner of the team.?
