Aaron Judge's Statue of Liberty gear—fashion statement or just another gimmick?

From early struggles to record-breaking performances- Aaron Judge’s comeback to the game this year has been nothing short of legendary. He is on a roll and how, ready to make 60+ homers, possibly clench the MVP award this year, and even break his own AL run record. But this year Judge has become more than a power hitter for the New York Yankees. He has turned into a full-blown fashion icon. One can count him as the Lewis Hamilton for baseball! As Aaron Judge connected on his 300th career home run at the White Sox’s Guaranteed Rate Field, the moment was electrifying.

Judge’s teammate went mad and mobbed him on the plate. The fan’s roars were loud and clear from the stands and the dugout erupted in cheers for their captain. However, at that moment, what caught the eye of many wasn’t just his stellar towering homer, but the mint gear he was sporting. And no, it’s not his lucky charm!

Aaron Judge‘s sea-foam green-colored accessories made waves this season. From his batting glove to his armband, the mint color was Judge’s way of paying homage to New York, since the city’s most iconic landmark, the Statue of Liberty, features that patina color. But this isn’t his first season rocking these colors. Judge had mentioned, “I’ve been wearing it my whole career. Pay a little tribute to the city and what the Statue of Liberty means. I think it’s pretty cool.”

Ever since Judge debuted the mint accessories in Cleveland, he has regularly featured the gloves, the armbands, and even the elbow guard. For him, it is more than a fashion accessory, it’s a nod to the city’s heritage and he loves it. I love it. I think it goes pretty well with the pinstripes,” said Judge to the New York Post.

Now, as influential as he is, not only his batting style but his fashion is also something his teammates look to for inspiration. Inspired by him, several other Yankees like Alex Verdugo, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, and Nestor Cortes Jr have also started incorporating the color into their gear. But if you thought this was the only way Judge has managed to awe everyone in 2024, you’re wrong!

Have an interesting take?

Aaron Judge is a fan favorite to get the MVP award, and why not? He never ceases to amaze with his performances. Just a few months ago, he was hitting modestly just at .209 and was having a slump, but look at him now! He has become a force to be reckoned with and has been power-hitting like never before. He has even surpassed legends like Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds. Don’t believe us?

In just 94 games he has shot 45 homers — he is not on pace with his 60-homer record, but on pace for 78 home runs this season, breaking his record! Even Ruth and Bonds never reached the number Judge reached in terms of home runs and RBI in a period of just 94 games. Judge has 45 homers, 103 RBIs, and a batting average of .333—a number only 11 people have ever managed to get over a full season. And right now, there is a month left of the game!

Judge is also one of the two players alongside Ruth to hit a half-century run in three seasons without a whisper of PED use. Plus his hitting average of .333, that’s not been heard or seen since the last 70 years. It is 89 points above the MLB average. Most of the Yankee fans know Babe Ruth as the King of New York when it comes to baseball, given his frequent home run hits. But things have changed. Judge has overtaken Ruth and become the most frequent home run hitter at the Yankee Stadium. After 90 years of Ruth reigning as the King of New York, Judge has officially dethroned him.

Judge has been a huge upward march, and it isn’t just a shift in stats but a shift in legacy—he is writing his legacy with his performances. And it looks like he can break his AL home run record, even if he starts slumping!
