Is Mookie Betts the ultimate Yankee tormentor, or can New York finally silence him?

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a stellar Saturday night. After all, they commanded the lead of 2-0 over the New York Yankees. The men in blue didn’t just play, they dominated, and both their pitching and their offense were on full blast. Meanwhile, the Yankees did come close to breaking through with a ninth-inning rally, loading the bases with two outs while trailing 4-2. But the Dodgers seem to say ‘not today’ and their reliever, Alex Vesia, shut down the Yankee pitch-hitter Jose Trevino and won the game!

The momentum is now seemingly on the LA’s side, and the Yankees need to rewrite the script and do it soon. After the game, the FOX post-game crew, which features two of the pinstripes legends, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, analyzed the dire loss. Meanwhile, Dodgers star Mookie Betts was with them, and in classic playful Betts fashion, couldn’t help but rub salt at the expense of the former Yankees.

The LA Dodgers took care of the games on their home turf. Mookie Betts couldn’t hold his excitement when talking with the FOX crew. And why not? Because only 11 teams in the past have won the game, after going 2-0. So this is a great start! Betts hugged his former teammate, David Ortiz, on the panel. And then Mookie Betts turned attention to Derek Jeter and said, “I know you don’t like us right now, but I love you too”. And the entire FOX post-game cast broke into a big laugh.

Now Mookie Betts is no stranger to tormenting the New York Yankees. During his six years with the Boston Red Sox, Betts built a solid track record against the pinstriped players. During Game 1 of the World Series this time, he was slow, but we saw him come alive at Game 2. Betts notched two hits and reminded the Yankee fans, of the trouble he can bring to the mound.

But, Betts also knows that the momentum can break anytime. Moreover, the games now move away from the Dodgers home ground to the New York Yankee stadium. So anything can happen!

Mookie Betts, aware of the Yankee threat

It seems like the mindset for the Los Angeles Dodgers coming in game 2 was–to catch the Yankees from the get-go. So they kept the pressure on starter Carlos Rondon. Then in the second inning, Tommy Edman set the tone with a solo home run. After he opened up the scoring, the third inning, opened the floodgates. Teoscar Hernandez smashed a two-run homer, and Freddie Freeman yet again did his magic!

After Freeman’s grand walk-off in Game 1, he didn’t disappoint and gave a solo shot. The LA Dodgers were on fire and Rondon exited just after 3.1 innings, bearing the brunt of the loss. The New York Yankees did have a ‘gotcha’ moment when Juan Soto, smashed a solo home run off Yoshinobu Yamamoto. But that was the only mistake that the Dodger star allowed, as he crushed through 6.1 innings of one-run baseball.

In the ninth inning, the Yankees tried but things didn’t work but Dodgers are not taking the win lightly. Mookie Betts said, “It feels great but playing in New York, you know what it’s like. So they’re going to come and they’re going to be ready to hit us in the mouth. But we’ll be ready to go. Meanwhile, Aaron Boone mentioned that they have a long series ahead—so giving up or being low is not on their cards.
