Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Derek Jeter have made many memories as New York Yankees teammates. Some on the field and some away from the playing turf. Speaking on Michael Kay’s podcast, ‘A-Rod’ shared an off-the-field funny memory.

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Derek Jeter are iconic baseball legends who played together for the New York Yankees from 2004 until their retirement. Jeter played as a Yankee for his entire career and retired in 2014 as a 14-time All-Star player and five-time World Series champion. On the other hand, ‘A-Rod’ played for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers before joining the Yankees. ‘A-Rod’ retired in 2016 as a 14-time All-Star player and a one-time World Series winner.

Both players appeared together for the American League All-Stars team multiple times. But more than that, the prime highlight of their playing career is winning the 2009 World Series as teammates. Their celebrity status didn’t stop them from being close friends outside the ballpark either (though amidst ups and downs). That includes often crashing into each other’s apartment.

Alex Rodriguez’s champion breakfast at Derek Jeter’s place

Michael Kay is a popular American sports broadcaster. He is famous for his live commentary on the New York Yankees games. He is also the host of a podcast titled ‘KayRod Cast’. Many world-renowned sporting personalities grace the podcast.

A recent episode invited Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Derek Jeter as guests. The two discussed various instances during their playing tenure. At one point, ‘A-Rod’ shared a joke about having breakfast on a morning during his stay at Jeter’s bachelor pad. For the most part of his bachelor years, Jeter famously lived in his Trump Tower penthouse.

Speaking about Jeter on the podcast, ‘A-Rod’ said, “We had a Sunday day game, so Saturday night we had a long night. And he was the ultimate bachelor. A great example that as you open his fridge, there was nothing there. So he says to me, ‘hey, Mr. T said we had no batting practice we report at 12.’ Lou Piniella had, I think he was mad at us. And he said, ‘report’s at 10 a.m.’ He said, ‘don’t you dare wake me up. I’m waking up at 10:30-11:00. Then I’m gonna go to the ballpark. Make yourself at home and take your b*tt to the ballpark on your own. At that time it was taxi, not Uber.”

‘A-Rod’ further added, saying, “So I’m hungry, I’m starving in the morning. So I open the fridge, there’s nothing there. He does have some cereal. So now I’m eating ‘Lucky Charms’, no milk. I get a little orange juice, throw in the Lucky Charms, and that was my ‘Breakfast Of Champions’. And of course, he kicked out b*tts, that’s the reason why.”

Then Kay jokingly asked Jeter if that was true. A laughing Jeter replied, “I don’t remember all the details.” Cutting in between, ‘A-Rod’ said, “I had to eat the cereal with orange juice.” Jeter then continued with the laughs, saying, “Yeah, but I mean my fridge still doesn’t have much in it to be quite honest.”

The life beyond retirement for Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter

Post-retirement, ‘A-Rod’ got busy with broadcasting duties and multiple business ventures. He is now the CEO of A-Rod Corp and Presidente Beer. He is also a co-owner of the NBA team, Minnesota Timberwolves. Whereas, after bidding farewell as a player, Jeter briefly turned into the CEO and co-owner of the MLB team, Miami Marlins. Leaving the administrative duties, Jeter is now a dedicated family man.
