Baseball has seen many talented ball players rocking the ballparks. From Babe Ruth, and Mickey Mantle, to Alex Rodriguez and many others, there have been many great baseball players. But when it comes down to leadership, only one name comes to everyone’s mind: Derek Jeter.

A player par excellence, Derek Jeter will probably be remembered as the greatest leader of the game. With a career that spanned over two decades, Jeter remained a Yankee. He is one of the very few players who have the privilege of calling themselves a one-team man.

When the former New York Yankees captain retired from the game, an era ended in the Bronx and the entire MLB. However, unlike his fans across the globe, it was not a big deal for Jeter. In an old interview with former US President Barack Obama, the Yankees legend revealed how he enjoyed his leisure time after retirement.

Derek Jeter retired at the right time

During his 20 years of professional career with the Pinstripes, Derek Jeter won everything in baseball. There was nothing left for him to win in MLB. Usually, when a player retires after a long career, it takes a while for them to adjust to their alternative lifestyle. But Jeter had no such problems.

While discussing the same with former US President Obama, Jeter said he slept the whole day the next day after retiring from baseball. The former Yankee also said he got the most out of his career. And it was the right time to take retirement.

“Everyone always says, ‘is it strange after you retire, is it a tough adjustment period? For me, it wasn’t. I slept the whole next day. So, that’s a very simple answer for me. I was ready to retire. I felt this dog put everything into my career, I got the most out of my career. And I was excited about the new things to come. But that initial day, you are going to sleep a lot,” Jeter said in 2016.

Jeter for the Yankees

Derek Jeter’s baseball career is decorated with five World Series titles. Debuted in the 1995 season, Jeter bid farewell to the game in the 2014 season. He remains the last Yankees captain to win the World Series. Because after the infamous 2009 World Series victory, the Yankees are yet to win any major trophy.
