Being a team captain in any sport is a demanding endeavor with multifaceted responsibilities and challenges. Such is the case for the captains of MLB teams. Although the tradition of naming captains in baseball might have faded, the New York Yankees follow it diligently. Hence, the position remained empty from 2015 to 2022 until last year, when Aaron Judge showed why he deserved it. Therefore, shortly after signing the judge back with the Yanks, the front office named him the sixteenth captain. However, being a captain does not only come with responsibilities. It comes with its perks and benefits as well.

Before going on the injured list for the second time this season, Judge sat down with his on-field opponent, off-field friend Mookie Betts as he hosted the show, On Base with Mookie Betts by Bleacher Report. There, among many other things, the duo talked about the perks that Judge received after becoming captain of the Bronx Bombers.

Seconds after discussing the responsibilities of the job, the Dodgers’ star asked BAJ about the perks. Without much thought, Judge said, “I get a nice parking spot at the stadium. I’m a little closer now to the doors, so it helps out.”

Even the Yankees captain does not want to waste any time before he gets to smash balls at the plate. There must be other perks that came with the title, but Judge chose to reveal only one of them. 

How did the Yankees Captain play before going on the injured list?

Before going on the IL second time this season, Judge had hit 19 home runs and posted an RBI of 40 with an average of 0.284. Had the reigning AL MVP had not gone on the IL, he might have competed with LA Angels’ two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani for the title this year. In a surprising turn of events, a couple of days ago, Judge gave an update on his injury to the eagerly awaiting fans. He said that he couldn’t make any promises to his fans while recovering from torn toe ligament.
